The review desert

We audited 23 fashion storefronts across four Egyptian verticals — sportswear, homewear, women’s fashion and the international high street. Only five show a single customer review. Not one shows reviews on the homepage. In a market where shoppers over-index on social proof, almost nobody supplies it.

23 storefronts. One shade of proof each.

Each tile is one audited brand, colored by review status at audit date. Darker = more proof. Most of the map barely registers.

The outlier

One brand collected more proof than the other 22 combined

In sportswear, GorillaOutfit operates with 8,000+ visible reviews, 100K+ customers served and a 45% repeat rate — while five of its six direct competitors show zero reviews. Review volume where any exists:

Counts as displayed on each storefront at audit date. Three further stores (KAF Wear, Red Cotton, plus sparse volumes at 2S, Mlameh and Dress Code) have review software live without stated volume.

Beyond reviews

The whole proof stack is under-built

Adoption of every trust signal we audited, by vertical. Reviews are the widest gap — but not the only one.

What the numbers mean

01

Proof is the cheapest open advantage in the market.

The one brand that built review volume pairs it with a 45% repeat rate. Review software is free or near-free; 18 of 23 stores simply haven't switched it on.

02

The internationals win on trust stack, not proof.

H&M, LC Waikiki, Max and DeFacto also show zero homepage reviews — they compensate with call centers, COD, installments and loyalty programmes. Local DTC brands match neither layer.

03

Nobody commits to a delivery time. Anywhere.

23 of 23 storefronts state a free-shipping threshold; zero state when the order arrives. The first brand to publish a delivery promise claims an empty category.

About this report

23 storefronts across four verticals, compared on the same trust signals: visible reviews and counts, homepage claims, payment options and delivery promises. All figures reflect each storefront as publicly displayed, March–April 2026 — a snapshot, reported neutrally for every brand.

This is the free edition. The full 23-brand dataset — price ladders, catalog sizes, discount behavior, speed scores — ships as the flagship report.
